Grade 1

The Greek language course starts, as well as continues, the development of the students’ comprehension skills through the introduction of new vocabulary and simple sentence structure in Greek. As language study and intercultural knowledge is the focal point of this course, the aim is to provide relevant and purposeful themes where children will explore language as well as identity. Teaching strategies and educational material include: songs, games, stories, readers, discussions, posters and pictures, videos, show and tell, role play, dancing and enrichment activities. Incidentally themes are drawn from the topics studied in the text book. Themes such as celebrations, my body, greetings, my family, animals, days of the week, numbers are introduced and pronunciation/speaking, word recognition/reading and writing are emphasized.
